Wedding Registry Tips

A wedding registry can be created on-line or in person with the help of a sales-person.  You select your favorite store(s) and choose the items you would like your guests to purchase as a gift for you.   You can register anywhere from the time you are engaged or 3-6 months before the wedding.

If you are getting married in your home town then you will go in person to sign up at places like Sears, Macy’s, The Bay, Bed Bath & Beyond, Crate and Barrel,  and Home Outfitters to name a few. Try and keep it to 2 or three stores max so you don’t have items registered all over the place.

Do it Together! It’s a special time when the two of you go together and choose the items you like, to start your life in your apartment or home.  You will register for all the things you love, so you should love what you get and not have to worry about returns.  Try to choose items from mid price to higher luxury items to suit everyone’s budget.   Sometimes a group of friends or family will all chip in to buy one of your luxury items.

When making your registry selections you want to make all practical choices.   If your wedding is the start of the Winter why register for an outdoor patio set?  You should register for all of your kitchen, bath and bedroom needs first and then add in the little extra’s like luggage or that special espresso machine.    When ordering your china and cutlery, always increase to 10-12 placesettings.  It may be just the two of you but you will be inviting family and friends and you won’t regret having extra china in your cupboard!

A few weeks before the wedding it would not hurt to check your registry and if you see most items are gone than you can add a few more in giving guests some options.

Wedding registry has been around for many years and now we are seeing new options of Honeymoon or Charity Registry? Honeymoon registry is set up with a travel agency and guests can contact them directly and purchase gift cards that you can use towards your honeymoon. How nice would it be to almost have your honeymoon paid off after the cost of the wedding. Charity registry selects a charitable organization that is close to your heart and set up a fund that your guests can contribute to. How special is it when you can give your guests the opportunity to make a charitable donation, making a difference in someone’s life. This is probably one of the best gifts they could give.

A wedding registry is important to do.  Not only will you receive what you really want and need but it also makes it easier for your guests as well.  Many people have no idea what to buy, so the registry is a godsend to them.

Finally … whether your guests choose to give you a gift from your registry or envelope with cash, always remember the old saying……it’s the “thought that counts”.

Thank you for mentioning the benefits of a honeymoon registry and describing the attributes behind this increasingly mainstream registry option for engaged couples.

It is great to see how popular the honeymoon registry is becoming. The very first couple that registered with Traveler’s Joy was in 2004. It wasn’t long until we realized there were a large number of engaged couples that were not satisfied with the diversity of the traditional wedding registry market. Since then, the honeymoon registry has grown to become a mainstream option for brides and grooms and the industry has experienced significant growth.

We are proud to have helped tens of thousands of couples honeymoon at destinations they may never have considered – a great feeling for our Members and the Traveler’s Joy team.

I encourage you to contact us with any questions about our service. Most importantly, enjoy your honeymoon!

Creating a registry is very important. I did not want one for my wedding but my husband convinced me otherwise. His employee suggested Myregistry.com so we signed up for it. I have to say it was the easiest registry to use. I added items from any store online and had so much fun doing it.
